The Menzingers

Not even a stifling Sunday heat wave could temper the energy at The Observatory North Park on October 4. From the moment The Menzingers kicked off with "Chance Encounters" (whichfor me, it was the perfect chaos releasing song) the packed room exploded into a collective frenzy of jumping, dancing, and screaming every word.

They kept that momentum going all night and you couldn't help but get hooked on their stage energy. Tom May poured every ounce of joy into his performance, bouncing and smiling alongside Greg Barnett, Joe Godino, and Eric Keen. Together, they delivered an incredibly tight, locked-in set. The crowd gave that same fervor right back. Fans of all ages, including kids singing along with their parents, proved just how deeply the band’s music resonates across generations. It felt especially fitting given the themes of their eighth studio album, Everything Is Fine, which reflects on aging, life transitions, and making peace with the past.

The setlist hit a sweet spot, balancing new material with crowd favorites like "Telling Lies" and "Lookers," along with songs reaching back even further. Honorable mention to the openers Weakened Friends and punk stalwarts Hot Water Music set the bar high early on, delivering heavy-hitting sets that easily earned them new fans by the end of the night.

As a first-time visitor, The Observatory North Park quickly claimed the top spot as my favorite venue in San Diego. Fantastic sound, killer decor, and they even have an inside restaurant for food and drinks before sets start. Ultimately, The Menzingers proved once again why they remain punk rock royalty: they don't just put on a show, they bring a community together
