Humanity’s Last Breath
A sold-out venue, four crushing sets and a headline performance that completely blew me away. Manchester was treated to a seriously heavy night of deathcore.
I've been to The Bread Shed in Manchester plenty of times, but this was the first time I'd seen it completely sold out. Walking into such a packed room was something else. There was barely any space to move, the atmosphere was already building, and with KARMANJAKAH, ENTERPRISE EARTH, VILDHJARTA and HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH on the bill, everyone was in for a night of absolute heaviness.
With four bands on the bill, there was plenty of opportunity for the energy to build throughout the evening, and that's exactly what happened. Each set added something to the night, with the support bands doing a brilliant job of preparing the crowd for the headliners.
KARMANJAKAH opened the show, giving the crowd a chance to warm up before the heaviness really kicked in. Opening a night like this is never the easiest job, but they got things underway before ENTERPRISE EARTH stepped it up another level.
ENTERPRISE EARTH delivered a killer set, bringing the aggression and intensity that suited the lineup perfectly. By this point, the atmosphere inside The Bread Shed was seriously lively, and anticipation was growing as the evening moved towards the next act.
Then came VILDHJARTA, and this was where things really took off.
Their set got the mosh pits moving and the crowd surfers going, with the energy reaching another level entirely. I was in the pit, and one moment genuinely sent shivers down my spine. Even with my earplugs in, I could hear the sheer roar of the vocals cutting through without the microphone. That raw power was something else. When a vocalist can project that much intensity over the chaos of a live metal show, you know you're witnessing something special.
It's moments like that which make seeing heavy music live such a different experience. You can listen to the recordings as much as you want, but being in the pit and feeling that sound hit you in person is on another level.
VILDJARTA had the crowd exactly where they needed to be, with pits opening up and crowd surfers making their way through the room. After two strong performances, they gave everyone the final push before the headliners arrived. The entire venue felt ready to unleash whatever it had left.
And then it was time for HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH
This was my first time seeing them live, and I went into the set excited to experience them in person. What I wasn't expecting was to come away quite so blown away. They were phenomenal.
There's heavy music, and then there's the sheer weight of HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH. Their sound felt massive, with crushing riffs and an intensity that made the whole venue seem to shake. The atmosphere built by the support bands carried straight into the headline set, but the band made sure the crowd weren't just standing back and watching.
Crowd involvement was a huge part of what made the performance so memorable. They knew exactly how to get people moving and actively encouraged the chaos. At one point, they demanded a wall of death, and the crowd didn't disappoint. Watching the room split apart before everyone charged into the middle was absolute carnage, and it went down a treat.
That interaction added another dimension to an already crushing set. The crowd were part of the performance, helping turn an already sold-out show into an unforgettable night. With the venue packed from front to back, seeing everyone get involved was particularly intense.
For the first time seeing HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH, it was difficult to imagine a better introduction. They exceeded my expectations and left me wanting to see them again. Their sound, presence and ability to turn the room into absolute chaos made for a headline performance that lived up to the anticipation.
Looking back at the night as a whole, the support bands deserve plenty of credit. KARMANJAKAH got things moving, ENTERPRISE EARTH kept the intensity climbing, and VILDHJARTAhad the pits and crowd surfers going before HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH took over. Every set helped build towards the next, making the evening feel like one continuous escalation in heaviness.
Four bands, a sold-out Bread Shed and an absolutely ridiculous amount of deathcore. HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH was phenomenal, and after finally seeing them live, I can safely say they've made a serious impression on me.
The night delivered everything I could have wanted from a heavy show: a packed venue, relentless performances and a headline set that completely exceeded my expectations. HUMANITY’S LAST BREATH left a lasting impression, and I hope it won't be too long before I get the chance to see them again.
