Q: The title “Enough is Enough” is incredibly direction, but the emotions throughout the song feel layered. What does the phrase “Enough is Enough” mean to each of you?
A: This song is about contentment in every season. The face value meaning is a sort of call out to myself to get going when it gets tough, enough standing idly by. But it’s also a reminder of dependence that says “I have just enough, and just enough is enough.”
Q: If each member of the band had to describe the band’s current era using just one word, what would those words be?
A: Ele: Invigorating, Jonah: Zeal, Sophia: Fruitful, Winston: Building, Kennoniah: Electric, Dawson: Growing.
Q: During the writing process of “Enough is Enough,” was there a lyric that made you stop and think, “This is exactly what we’ve been trying to say?”
A: “Break me so that another might be fed” We’re always looking for security in the form of excess, but the humility to say “I’m going through it right now, but I still have enough, and I want my character in trial to be an example of hope and life for someone else somehow”- that’s where real prosperity is.
Q: Are there any sounds, influences, or genres that you’ve been experimenting with that fans haven’t heard yet?
A: Our influences as a band are varied and eclectic. Between the six of us, we’re always pulling in sounds and ideas from new places. Alt and heavier rock tones, synth ideas from art/chamber bands, and some Eastern inspired strings are some sounds you can expect from us. We love blending all our influences together.
Q: If someone discovered your band through “Enough is Enough”, what song from your catalog would you tell them to listen to next and why?
A: Our EP “MORE TO FIND” releases September 25th! We’re so excited for this project to be out in the world! Until then, our second single “Analog” is out now and “Grow Up!!!” releases 7/31.
Q: If another artist could cover “Enough is Enough” who would you love to hear take it on?
A: Ele: Anything she touches is absolutely golden and she knows how to be honest about the fight for hope, so I would be obsessed with an orchestral RAYE version. Jonah: I’m in my Belieber era- JB cover would be tough.
Q: What’s a lyric that you’ve written that you’re most protective of and why?
A: “Forgot I’m man and not machine” from our song Analog, reminds us to keep rediscovering freedom in life apart from the pull of the algorithm, and that life is not lived in a linear checklist. That’s an idea we want to keep close.
Q: What is one word that would describe your next project?
A: Childlike!
Q: What would make this year feel successful to you?
A: Playing live shows is our favorite thing in the world, so we’ve been having an amazing year getting to play our first festivals! Meeting people after our set and getting to know folks beyond their insta username is a major win to us. We’re planning a Fall tour later this year to support our EP and we would love to meet some more friends IRL.
