Medium Build

Think of the most fun you’ve had at a show, times it by two, and sprinkle in a little more for good measure. That’s what Nick Carpenter, also known as Medium Build, and his band brought to St. Andrews Hall on their King of Having Fun tour Wednesday night.

Bella White was the opener for the night, and she gained many new fans, alongside some diehard fans coming over from Canada just to see her play. She was very interactive with the crowd, at one point asking for everyone to help her name a new song she had written.

As soon as Carpenter walked onto the stage, he had the whole room going wild. Playing for a crowd twice the size as the one they had played for in that same venue two and a half years ago, the growth was amazing to see. Carpenter has an incredible stage presence, which infects every single person in the audience. You can’t help but dance and sing along, and it becomes extremely evident how much the band loves what they do.

A favorite song on the setlist was Armor, the lead single from the tour's namesake album, King of Having Fun. Setting the mic stand off to the side so he had an open space to dance, Carpenter put on a performance I will think about for a while. This is one of those songs that is made to be played live.

The amount of joy in the venue was enough alone to earn Medium Build the kings of Having fun title. It’s always so great to see a group who believes in what they do so much, and how that energy sheds off onto the people around them.
